Fortified Joints for Lasting Commercial Flatwork Strength

Edge protection in commercial flatwork involves reinforcing concrete slab edges and joints to prevent chipping, spalling, or cracking under heavy loads. Joints, such as saw-cut contraction joints, allow controlled cracking to manage stress, while edge protection systems, like tapered plate dowels, maintain alignment and stability. American Highway’s edge protection solutions ensure durable, low-maintenance joints, extending the lifespan of commercial concrete surfaces like warehouses and industrial floors.

Iron-Clad™ Joint Assembly

Iron-CladTM joint assemblies are precise, armored joints designed to reduce your concrete slab-on-ground and equipment maintenance costs over the life of your project.

Iron-Clad™ Joint Assemblies are armored joints engineered to eliminate spalling in floors with small, hard-wheeled lift truck traffic. These armored joints are ideal for controlled environments where limited thermal expansion and contraction are expected. Iron-Clad™ joint assemblies protect slab edges and ensure adjacent surfaces remain in the same plane with repetitive loading when used with traditional plate dowels. High-tolerance steel bars have square edges for exact and simple concrete finishing. The Iron-Clad™ joint is assembled with nylon nuts that yield with normal concrete shrinkage to reduce joint cracking. And, the built-in joint-fil bar supports joint filler and allows wheels to transition smoothly across the joint. Iron-CladTM joints assemblies for consistent and simple installation:

  • Arrives on site fully assembled
  • Installation is quick using traditional timber forms with plate dowels
  • Smooth, square edges provide a flat finishing surface
  • Built in joint-fil bar supports the semi-rigid joint filler
  • Newly designed mounting brackets allow for simple installation and form stripping

The Serpentine™ Joint Assembly

The Serpentine™ Joint Assembly provides shock-free load transfer in commercial flatwork, ensuring durable, curl-free joints in warehouses and cold storag

The Serpentine Joint™ Assembly is a partial-depth, fully anchored, armored joint system. The sinusoidal design provides superior load-bearing capacity with dynamic and static loading across slabs for a shock-free, quiet surface. By eliminating impact on the joint, forklift wheels move evenly across construction joints without joint filler in facilities where thermal changes cause joint opening and closing. The Serpentine™ Joint Assembly is easily installed at the job site on traditional timber forms by aligning the nail plate, adjusting the final grade, and locking the assembly in place with nails. Pocket formers and plate dowels should be added for load transfer.
